Goodbye Winter… Hello Spring! Welcome to 2025…

We are always here to give you our old-fashioned customer service! Whether it’s ordering a book, suggesting a perfect gift or card, we are here to help. We are proud to say we are 100% Canadian, owned and operated and since our first days in 1927, we have always been so!

As we inch closer to our 97th(!) anniversary of serving our Weston community and beyond, we received some lovely Valentine’s Day messages through our BIA’s Valentine’s Day contest. Neighbours were encouraged to write their Valentine messages to and about their favourite businesses in our BIA and here is a pic of one of the winners, Jerry, being presented his gift card to shop locally! We are blessed to have such lovely neighbours and customers who come to visit, spend a few $$ and keep our store humming…

Back-to-School @ Squibb’s!

Looking for textbooks, supplies & art supplies? Check us out! As the oldest book & stationery store in Toronto, we are always happy to help you with what you need for a successful school year. If we have it in stock or need to order in, we can help you out!

We are remiss… we forgot to wish our wonderful but flawed country a very Happy Canada Day last week! Apologies!!!

Canadian Indigenous Flag (formerly known as the Canadian Native Flag) was designed by the late Kwakwaka’wakw artist Curtis Wilson. We hope this flag brings a better understanding of the First Nations of our country and a vision for a unified Canada that still revels in its diversity.

Happy Pride!!!!

April showers bring May flowers… plus, it also means we get to celebrate our next milestone anniversary! And as a bonus, we get to celebrate the Coronation of the new King Charles III…

Paying homage to our original owners, Arthur & Cary Squibb along with their son, Gordon (who was a great photo enthusiast), we have archival photos of our late Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Day celebrations in Weston! It was an epic and monumental event, with the whole community coming down to Main Street as it was known to salute the Queen… with bunting, parades & decorated store windows along with a special newsreel in the local cinema, it was a truly special day! Check out our crown on the second floor as well as one of the windows before they were renovated.

Please do let us know if you have special book requests or other gift needs that we can help you with. If you are new to us, we specialize in serving the individual with custom orders from our various publishing contacts and suppliers! And of course, if you are an educator, ask us how we can help you with your textbook needs for yourself or school.

Saying good-bye to 2022….

Thank you to our loyal customers, old and new, who visited us this past year! We wouldn’t be ‘Squibbs’ without you….

Christmas & Chanukah 2022

We are getting excited to celebrate!

Forty-two years ago on April 10th, 1980 just before the store turned 53, my dear late parents, Jack & Marilyn, took the bold step to take on a ‘new adventure’ in the Town of Weston.

That adventure was Squibb’s Stationers.

Now, 42 years later, we are looking forward to celebrating our 95th anniversary as the oldest bookstore & now the oldest stationers in the GTA! It’s as surprising to us as it is to many, that we have survived all this time so we have to thank everyone for their support and loyalty over all these years…

And don’t forget, it’s Mother’s Day on May 8th, so what perfect timing to come for a visit, pick up a gift & be part of our Squibb’s history!

At our 90th celebrations, a dear friend made us a picture and I share it below…

We strive to have a unique selection of great gift giving ideas … books for everyone, general & religious gifts, mugs, puzzles, socks, art supplies, Bibles & so much more! Book orders are our specialty for both general reading as well as academic – just contact us for details.

Just a reminder…. for almost 95 years, we have been here to help you with your educational / office supply / school supply / art supply needs!

Please note:  We are no longer keeping our door locked – just come in!

Regular hours:

Monday to Saturday:  10:30am to 6pm

Sundays … Closed

While masking will no longer be mandatory in the days to come, we highly encourage our visitors to maintain masking for everyone’s protection.

We thank you for understanding!

You can place your orders by phone, email and through Facebook Messenger or Instagram. Delivery available – call to arrange by credit card.

Our History…

squibbs80th
Cary Squibb 1933

Since May 5th, 1927, Squibb’s has been committed to offering our customers excellent quality, service & price. We are a 100% Canadian, privately owned & operated business. Our mission daily is to keep to the original values of our founder, Arthur T. Squibb & then his son Gordon, building on what was created 95 years ago.

Our strengths are: product knowledge, ability to custom order and fair pricing.  We are proud to say that we are the oldest bookstore in Toronto & now the oldest stationery store in the GTA.

We strongly believe that old fashioned and personal customer service is a lost art and that our clients appreciate what we can do for them.

We stock the following:

  • Books for all ages & subjects
  • Textbooks & Educational Material – our specialty!
  • All grade levels – K to 12, ESL
  • Bible & religious/spiritual books
  • Unique and fun gift items
  • Office/School/Art Supplies
  • Our own ‘Squibb’s Organic Honey’
  • and much more!

We would like to acknowledge that this community is situated upon traditional Indigenous territories that include: the Wendat, the Anishnabeg Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations. The treaty that was signed for this particular parcel of land is collectively referred to as the Toronto Purchase and applies to lands east of Brown’s Line to Woodbine Avenue and north towards Newmarket. We also recognize and respect the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples on this land.  Weston is situated on what is commonly known as the ‘The Carrying Place Trail’.

Great to see History survive… I remember many evenings doing homework upstairs when my parents John and Judith Woods used to own this store back in the mid 70’s. How Weston has changed over the years.

    Wishing you continued success!

    • suri says:

Thanks Bob for reaching out! I have no information on your parents – didn’t even know their names other than the last name. I actually had a request for information from a Sher Bradbeer who was looking for your family but since I had none, I couldn’t share (not that I would without consent!!). Give me a call – 416-241-5801 – I’d love to get your family history to go with the rest. I know the family who bought from your parents, Milt & Kally Janetakes, but nothing about yours.

      Best,
      Suri @ Squibbs

  11. Keogh Nina says:

Such memories as a kid with my parents as friends of the Squibbs in the late 40s and early 50s. John and Linda Keogh. Anywhere
I came to visit in I think, the 80s for old times’ sake.
The staff remembered us. We had lived at 73 Main above Dodds.
Not sure if there’s anyone who is there now who would remember me/us.
I wonder if in your archival material, you might have anything that has the Keoghs in it. As I look at your crown for the parade in 1953, it reminds me of the one my parents made to go over the entrance to Eaton‘s College Street. Best wishes maybe I will come and visit again. I’m on IG and FB as keogh studio

    • suri says:

      Hi Nina,
that’s a name I’m unfamiliar with. You might want to look on FB on our Weston Historical Society page as well as our Weston Annex page. If you pose the question there, you might get a few hits! It’s become a great source for recollections. Also Weston, News & Views is a great page moderated by another long-time Weston resident. Hope you connect with people!
